Are you looking for a particular backup solution that isn't available?
Hello. I'm looking for a file-based backup solution, not an imaging tool, that matches the features of your old Handy Backup version 4.0 from 2004. Over the past twenty years, I've relied on this software, which is still available in a newer version I bought recently. However, it lacks the specific capabilities I require. Whenever I set up a new computer, I had to obtain a new serial number and wait a week for an email confirmation, even after sending multiple messages and trying other contact methods.
I currently use three desktops and one laptop with the outdated version of Handy Backup 4.0. I've invested significant time creating various backup strategies, but no alternative software comes close to replicating what I need. For example, my video/audio editing machine has 12 internal drives, which I rely on for quick access to archived files. I also have an external 22 terabyte drive that allows me to back up all of them with a single click. Additionally, I use several internal drives for local backups, ensuring redundancy by swapping in another drive when needed.
Handy Backup let me select multiple drives and folders, target specific locations, and see the backup process in real time—showing each file's destination without a progress bar. If a file moved or was renamed on the source drive, it would update automatically on the target. This feature is crucial for maintaining data integrity.
Anyone have recommendations for backup software that offers similar functionality? I use Acronis for incremental imaging during my work hours but back up both internal and external drives daily. It’s convenient because I can clean up files from any drive and instantly see the exact directory structure without compression, ensuring everything stays consistent on the target drive.
Your insights would be greatly appreciated as this setup is quite specialized.
At the file and folder level, consider using FreeFileSync or SyncBackFree. These tools handle the actual file transfers without any image processing or compression. For the Windows operating system drive, things are a bit different. Standard file copying won't function there.
For a file-based backup system akin to Handy Backup 4.0, SyncBackPro and FreeFileSync are recommended options. SyncBackPro delivers detailed file-level backup and synchronization with visible progress for each item, matching your familiar experience. FreeFileSync provides real-time updates through a user-friendly interface that helps monitor modifications. Both solutions aim to support multiple backups, track changes in files, and maintain directory organization.
