What do you think about Microsoft moving past Windows 9 and starting with Windows 10? For those who used Windows 8, will you upgrade to Windows 10 or keep going with Windows 8? I know many people really like Windows 8, and returning to the old version might feel strange. If you're heading to Windows 8, what new features from Windows 8 would you want in Windows 10? The same applies to Windows 7 users—will you go to 10 or stay on Windows 7?

bypassing 9 isn't too big of a deal. nvidia largely skipped the 800 series. my wife uses Win8, so I might upgrade her to 10 to restore the start menu. you can try some third-party tools to fix it temporarily, but I don’t want to interfere with such core OS functions. I still have Windows 7 on my desktop and feel mixed about it. After seeing the tech preview, I plan to test it in a VM to see if it suits me. It could become my next OS. If I stay on Windows until it reaches end-of-life, I might need to cut back on gaming if Windows isn’t improving much. But if Linux supports more games, I’ll probably switch over completely.

What are they offering? Users seem excited, as if it's the final version. It's just an early alpha at the moment. You can't be sure unless all features are shown. If you're talking about a technical preview, then yes—I'll take it, run it through a VM, test everything, and possibly set up a dual boot with my 8.1 and 10. Updated September 30, 2014 by deviant88

According to what I understand, the upgrade from Windows 8 is going to be free. That makes it the ideal choice for me.

I'm feeling a bit let down by this. Unless they've addressed their indexing, I doubt I'll be moving forward. It seems like the same familiar Windows experience with a start menu reintroduced, rather than a fresh overhaul. I was hoping for a major reset to eliminate all unnecessary features and rebuild from scratch. Perhaps something like Windows 11? Or does this clash with Microsoft's overall direction? It really feels more like an OS X release in several aspects — comparable UI and only minor visual tweaks.
