Are you facing a CPU or GPU limitation, or are the game adjustments handling the issue?
I chose to assemble my new machine a few months ago, planning to play RDR2 first, then Hogwarts Legacy and Starfield afterward. I observed that each title uses a different engine, yet I consistently face the same performance problems. In crowded or dense zones—like Saint Denis in RDR2, Neon in Starfield, or Hogwarts Castle in the castle area—I notice frame rates drop from around 160-200 FPS to just 60-80. These drops only last a brief moment while the game tries to load new sections or characters. This causes noticeable stuttering and lag. I recognize that such performance issues are normal in busy areas, as the GPU and CPU must handle more work there. However, the frequency of these dips feels unusual for my setup. My current hardware includes an i9-13900K, a 4090 RAM module, and 32GB of DDR5 memory. I also understand that many games aren’t fully optimized for PC, given the wide range of available configurations. I’m wondering if this is truly a bottleneck or simply a result of game optimizations. Additionally, my AIDA64 benchmark showed an average temperature of 85-90°C during a 5-minute test at full load, with no thermal throttling detected. I’ve attached a photo of Riva for reference.
Your current speed is running at a high rate on RAM. Consider switching to auto instead of XMP to see if performance changes.
Turn off the eco features, it might assist. The Intel P+E design could be suboptimal.
I initially tried this configuration with my car, and it experienced 6-3% thermal throttling. To manage temperatures, I adjusted XMP settings for some components. The same problems appeared in other games using the standard build.
I'll give it a shot now. I'm still getting familiar with the BIOS options, mainly focusing on vcore and core speeds. My current vcore is 1.32, but with XMP it seems capped at 5.5Ghz even though my boost clock is 5.8Ghz. Maybe switching to manual mode would let me set the vcore myself and adjust all cores to 5.8?
Consider swapping the Intel ILM for a contact frame to possibly reduce CPU temperatures. Edited December 6, 2023 by leclod
I’ve already tried that before—it’s not a thermal issue. I’m operating at a peak of 91°C and there’s no temperature-related slowing down, as confirmed by AIDA.
