I own a Ryzen 2600, an ASRock X470 Master with SLI/AC support, 2x16GB 3000Mhz RAM, and a 1660 power supply. My main tasks are running Premiere Pro and Cities: Skylines. I’m using the stock cooler, but under heavy load it reaches 94.5°C and throttles below 3.4Ghz. I have two choices: upgrade the CPU or install a better cooler. Since I don’t want a liquid cooler, I’m considering a Noctua nh-d15. I can find a good price on a 3800X, so I won’t worry about a 3700X. However, my performance in Premiere—especially with 4K videos and a YouTube side gig—still feels lacking. I’m thinking about whether a third-gen Ryzen would help. My motherboard guide confirms the board supports a maxed-out 3800X, and I can also get a decent Aorus X570 Ultra. Right now I’m torn between CPU upgrade, CPU+motherboard upgrade, or cooler upgrade. PS: I’ll pick a cooler if I decide to go that route.

Looking for a good offer on a 3800x? If you're not satisfied with its current performance, consider upgrading to the latest model.

I can obtain it for about $400 Canadian, which is less expensive than a 3700X. I’m not satisfied with the performance, but my CPU is throttling, so I’m uncertain how much extra speed we could gain with improved cooling.

Performance improves slightly but not significantly. Around 15-20% variation possible based on your needs. If you need an OC, it might be around 15-20%.
