Running on 8700k with 3080, paired with a 1440 GSync 144Hz monitor. Playing various AAA titles and editing drone footage on Davinci. Think about upgrading to a new AMD CPU? Any advice would be great.

From a gaming standpoint the improvements will be minimal. The discussion leans more toward video editing, where a much higher core count might be justified, though you’ll need to weigh the performance benefits against the expense. By the way, I’m using an 8086k and also handling gaming at 1440p/144 with video editing (Vegas), making it a very similar scenario. I also have an extra Intel 12-core processor that could be moved to video editing if things get organized, while keeping the 6 cores dedicated to gaming.

I believe I'm prioritizing desire over necessity. I'm not very knowledgeable about AMD, so I should do more research before deciding.

Video editing benefits from GPU acceleration, but it's unclear how much CPU and GPU contribute to the overall performance. This balance should be explored further. Adding more CPU cores doesn't always double rendering speed.
