I’m planning to assemble a new computer from the ground up, including a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM, while retaining existing drives, graphics card, and peripherals. I’ll be adding an M.2 SSD for booting. Regarding Windows 10 activation, you can usually keep the same code if your hardware hasn’t changed significantly—just confirm with your current PC’s settings. For a fresh install on the SSD, it’s possible to transfer the activation code, but ensure all system components are compatible before proceeding.

You're looking to perform a fresh installation. The system will alert you about driver problems and BSODs if you don't take the right steps. (Noting the jump from Pentium to X299.) Anyone who wants to proceed should log in with a Microsoft account, verify the PC details, and ensure the same account is used during setup. When prompted for a product key, select "I don't have a product key." After signing in, navigate to Windows activation settings, choose your previous computer name (confirm it matches if multiple exist), and click "I've changed hardware on this PC." Give it time and you should be back to normal operation.

Also, save Magic Jelly Bean and note your activation code.

Your key is either OEM or retail. Generally, OEM keys are designed for the motherboard, meaning they won’t work without a new code. Since linking keys to accounts has become common in Windows 10, it’s uncertain whether your specific key will activate.

It started as an OEM Windows 8 installation, but I added a retail Windows 10 code to upgrade it to Professional. I was concerned because I've faced similar issues before on other systems, but the parts are arriving this week. I plan to share an update by the weekend to check the progress (hopefully everything goes well).

All systems go. Just use the same retail code or log in with your MS account.
