Are you asking if you must reinstall Windows after upgrading your CPU, motherboard, and RAM?
I've been running my setup with an Intel i7 4770 and Asrock Z87 Extreme 4 board for a while. I'm thinking about switching to a 10900K with a Gigabyte Z490 motherboard and adding more RAM. I haven't decided on the exact model yet. My current storage includes a 240 GB SATA SSD for the OS, a 1 TB SATA SSD for games, and an 8 TB NAS drive for media files. I plan to use all these drives on the new system too.
Will I need to reinstall Windows 10 on the existing OS drive? Or should it boot automatically if I pick it as the startup option? Also, does upgrading to an NVMe SSD for the OS drive noticeably speed up boot times?
It functions in theory but reinstalling is recommended since modifications might affect Windows. Edited July 1, 2020 by TofuHaroto
Windows 10 is linked to the device and your Microsoft account. Simply turn off the gadget (release the key if needed), replace the hardware, and turn it back on. If problems arise, use the built-in troubleshooter to reinstall, but keep your files safe. Alternatively, perform a clean install and use the same key again.
Thanks! I was wondering if it would be possible to skip installing all the software alongside Windows.
You might want to give it a shot first. If you encounter issues, reinstalling could help. It seems the activation code might need updating—just contact MS for assistance.
