Original Issue Description:
Visual disturbances occur when using alt+tab. These effects are invisible in OBS recordings and require phone recording to capture. The problem began 5-7 days ago and is becoming increasingly bothersome.
Troubleshooting Steps:
- Installed GPU and chipset drivers via AMD website using DDU.
- Tested with other games; issue persists but shifts in screen location.
- Used a different HDMI cable, yet artifacts remain.
Examples of Occurrence:
- *Destiny 2*: Fullscreen in Windows causes issues during game loading, but no visible artifacts in gameplay or normal fullscreen.
- *Bloonds TD 6*: Artifacts appear randomly on any map.
- *Genshin Impact*: Occurs intermittently.
- *Borderlands 2* and *Left4Dead 2*: No artifacts observed after multiple attempts.
Is this affecting your PC? What actions should I take?
They appear only in images rather than screenshots; if they're missing from OBS, it may indicate they aren't being displayed. Could this be related to the card? What display device are you using? Would you like me to help you share photos via an image-sharing platform and provide links here?
Hi, thank you for your message.
I wanted to mention that turning off MPO(Multi-Plane Overlay) resolved the issue temporarily, though I'm unsure if it's safe or not since everything worked perfectly without it for almost 8 months with default settings.
The monitor I use is a ViewSonic VX2476.
Here are the records from my phone in Bloons TD 6:
(This game was completely broken in this aspect and whenever I press alt+tab, the visual issue appears at the same spot, which is why I'm trying to capture the same area on both screens on the same map)

(Apologies, I recorded it in Turkish, but I'm repeating the same point to highlight the artifacts)
The OBS recording:

(The artifact usually appears at the same position on the screen—top left and top right—but in the OBS file there are no visible problems)
It might be MPO since it appears to work on various AMD GPUs and Nvidia as well, being a Windows feature included in Direct X. Game Development offers tools, tutorials, libraries, and code samples from Intel to help optimize your games. Visit www.intel.com. OBS shouldn't detect Windows layers during recording; the issue might be elsewhere. You could also try alternative adrenalin drivers, as there may be a bug in the latest version. MPO itself doesn't require specific driver requirements.
I have been using Amd 27.7.1 since its release and noticed artifacts recently. At that time I was using the same version without issues. After removing the undervolt settings and switching to stock configurations on 27.7.1, nothing changed. Then I upgraded to 27.7.2 yesterday; with both undervolt and stock settings, the visuals appeared again, leading me to the same Reddit post you mentioned. When I turned off MPO, it disappeared. From what I know, OBS relies on GPU sources for recording. Could this be the reason it’s not showing properly?
This seems like my assumption. It doesn't appear to be removing it from the desktop directly.
The driver versions look unusual; the first number indicates the year, followed by month and version. 27 seems too early. My machine has a 7900xt, running 23.7.2.
23.8.1 is outdated, so I should update now...
It probably isn't the drivers that are causing this issue—I think it shouldn't happen often in games.
I'm really sorry, yes the driver year was incorrect—it should be 23.7.2, and the previous version was 23.7.1.
My main concern is that it might be a hardware issue, though I’m hoping it’s not.
Some games such as Borderlands 2 or Left4Dead 2 didn’t have issues, but I think they used normal fullscreen mode, which in Destiny 2 caused the artifact to disappear when switched on.
It’s strange how this happened so abruptly, and I couldn’t locate any information about this problem. The only clue I found was a Reddit user who had the same issue and suggested turning off MPO.
I’m hoping it’s just a temporary fix.
Thank you very much for your help and sorry for the inconvenience. Have a great day.
no need to apologise about driver versions, I just thought it was strange.
Did you get a windows update yesterday? could be why it just started.
When I reviewed the update records, it appears that Microsoft Defender was mostly updated several times last week with updates such as;
August 8, 2023—KB5029263 (OS Build 22621.2134) - Microsoft Support
support.microsoft.com
And
August 8, 2023-KB5028948 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 22H2 - Microsoft Support
support.microsoft.com
The issue began last week, so it's unclear which update might have caused the problem if it's a software-related one.
unlikely to be a defender.
main issues are mostly bug fixes, possibly an unforeseen side effect.
Genshin Impact runs on .net.
Bloonds TD 6 - Epic launcher seems to work too.
Is Destiny available on Epic or Steam?
Consider rolling back the update to check if the issue persists.
