Are these temps normal?
Operating at 4.8ghz stable with 1.370v on an i7 6700k cooled by a Corsair h100i v2 and Asus Z170-A.
Ambient temperature is 23c, idle ranges 27-30c. I’m using the pre-applied thermal paste.
During AIDA64 temperatures rise to 85c for a brief moment before dropping back to 60-70c or even 55c, often continuing until I stop the stress test.
Cinebench max temperature stays at 70c or lower.
Should I be concerned about these high temperatures in AIDA64?
I don't like that voltage, but the temperatures are fine for those speeds/cooling. Usually you want to keep under 1.3v, but whatever feels comfortable for you is okay. Many people have suggested staying under 1.4 volts, so I think my setting is acceptable. Thanks for your thoughts on the temperatures—it seems odd that it jumps to 80°C for just a brief moment before returning to 60-70°C. I'm running a stress test now after I turned off SVID in the BIOS. It looks like the temperature dropped by about 1°C. So the maximum temperature during testing was around 78-81°C, which seems reasonable for a good number.
To ensure continuous operation, I would reduce the overclock and keep temperatures stable. For personal comfort, I aim to keep the temperature below 73°C.
For continuous operation, I’d reduce the overclock to keep temperatures stable. I’d aim to stay below 73°C. The CPU reaches 75-80°C during stress tests, but at the maximum settings for gaming or rendering it’s around 72°C.
Quite a high overclock, but given that high voltage - those temperatures are not unexpected. good job at reaching such a stable overclock. Should you worry about those temps at a benchmark that stresses your CPU to 100% load? No, but it just gives you certainty that your cooling is adequate for such an overclock. Now is 85C an acceptable temperature? Not really. Try to keep it below 80C out of good habit and being conservative. Since that's a stress test, you will rarely utilize 100% load under normal conditions. Hope that answers your question. Avoid 100% load to prevent that temperature spike in other words.

Temperatures only spike that high when stresstesting. When rendering it stays below 73c (100% load).
