many were moved to nvme a long time ago for the main operating system drive. SATA SSDs function but are ten times slower compared to HDDs, which are eight times slower than SATA SSDs.

Although still superior to an HDD, SATA SSDs are beginning to reveal their weaknesses, as noted here. I’d either stick with the drive for storing photos, videos, and similar files, or purchase an external enclosure to use it as an external SSD. I’ve been using one with my old Crucial MX500 1tb—it’s quite useful. I recommend the one I have, though it seems that model has been discontinued in favor of newer versions.
