Hey there! Yes, connecting your router to your PC via Ethernet and then using a crossover cable between the second LAN port of one PC and another PC will work. Both PCs should get internet access. The first PC doesn’t necessarily need to be on for the second PC to connect, but it helps ensure a stable link.

You only need crossover cables when your ethernet card supports 100 mbps. Cards with 1 gbps or faster automatically detect pairs, eliminating the need for crossover cables. Yes, your PC must be powered on for the second computer to access the internet. No, it doesn<|pad|>'s network card will handle this automatically—check the sharing feature on your card or control panel. You need to configure your PC to share internet with the second machine. A budget network switch under 20$ for five ports is affordable and practical. It makes more sense to purchase one and connect it to your router, using two cables from the switch to each computer. Used gigabit switches are available on eBay for under 10$, but it may not be worth the effort.

Yes, it functions when navigating to the Control Panel and typing "Network and Sharing Center." On the left, choose change adapter settings. Mark the two adapters you're attempting to connect and click "Bridge Connections." Your PC must be powered on for the bridge connection from the router to work. A networking switch would likely be a more suitable option. I recommend proceeding with this method.

It's achievable, though the system must be set up accordingly. The computer needs to stay running for the second part to maintain an internet link. Current setups usually include Auto-MDIX, so a crossover cable isn't required.

Ugh, I already have enough ports to connect another cable from my second computer. I just need to place an order for another one from Amazon. I was thinking about saving some money and using my existing 3-foot Ethernet cable instead. It seems like I’ll be ordering another 33-foot one.

alternatively, you might purchase a switch and connect a long cable directly to it. Then acquire two 3-5 ft cables from the switch for each PC. The switch can be placed behind your computer rather than close to the router, and its exact position doesn't matter. 14$ : 5 port gigabit switch: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a...6833704042

I don’t have much room to put a switch here. Maybe I’ll do it in this room if I end up with a third device. Lol. Right now I don’t think I need one.
