Are there any downloadable themes or options that can boost performance on Windows 7? Seeking a GUI change—something like a dark theme or high-contrast look—but also one that runs efficiently, similar to a lightweight Linux interface. The goal is a visually different experience without slowing down the system, especially on an older laptop used mainly for YouTube and other tasks.

Unlikely. A theme alters the appearance but doesn't modify the core UI engine, such as switching the entire DE on Linux can.

Besides turning off transparency, there was little to no noticeable improvement in performance, except possibly for older low-end graphics cards that had been running for a while.

You might consider using a trimming script such as tronscript or whatever it is named.

Viruses usually slow things down. First, I’d check the hardware. Windows 7 was pretty well optimized, which is why it was popular. I’d focus on the laptop’s hard drive, processor, and memory in that sequence.
