Are there any recommendations for the new laptop requirements?
Hello. I spend most of my time browsing, with my laptop running almost 15 to 18 hours daily.
I mainly download files, browse the web, and watch YouTube or movies.
I own a 6-year-old Dell Vostro with an i3 5005U processor and 8 GB DDR3L RAM.
Occasionally, I notice the laptop's CPU is becoming outdated and struggles with heavy tasks.
I’m looking for a slim, lightweight laptop within a budget of Rs.40000 (~ $500).
What brand and processor should I consider? Should I stick with Dell or explore options from Asus or Acer?
Would you like a link to the stores where you could purchase items? I'm not sure about the prices in India, for example, is Rs 40000 really a maximum? The feel of the screen and keyboard is crucial on a laptop—can you test it before buying, or just hope it works? At the very least, reading reviews would be helpful before making a purchase.
You should avoid spinning hard drives and opt for non-Pro editions of Windows to save costs. You don’t need to pay extra for Windows 11, but you might not get Windows 10? If your laptop runs on battery a lot, pay close attention to reviews about battery life.
You’re likely to get around 16 GB of RAM, though I only have 8 GB in my desktop PC and use similar tasks without issues. So 8 GB should be fine if needed. For your needs, a smaller hard drive might be acceptable, letting you focus on other features like CPU or screen size.
You’ll need to decide between an AMD or Intel CPU. I’d check the benchmark scores on Passmark.com before choosing. Raw CPU power is still a key factor, which is also important for reliability.
I’d probably prefer Dell, Asus or Lenovo over Acer.
Hello. Here are the websites you can buy from.
https://www.amazon.in is an online shopping platform offering a wide range of products including mobiles, electronics, furniture, groceries, books, and more. It provides the best deals and lowest prices across various brands in India. Payment methods include COD, EMI, and credit.
www.flipkart.com is another popular online store for mobiles, electronics, home appliances, books, and more. It offers a vast selection at competitive prices in India.
Lenovo Official India | Laptops, Tablets, Desktops, Data Center is the official site for purchasing Lenovo products. You can shop online or contact their sales team.
www.lenovo.com is the official Lenovo website for laptops, tablets, desktops, and servers.
www.asus.com features home laptops suitable for everyday use from ASUS, known for reliable performance and streaming capabilities.
The new ergolift design is being evaluated as either good or bad, depending on personal preference.
I have no knowledge of the hinge design.
Customer service: I don’t think a positive experience is guaranteed with any company. Price wars dominate, making customer service just another consideration to keep costs low. You’re left hoping you’ll never need to interact with it.
It’s a gamble, but you can’t completely avoid it.
Assessing reliability is difficult. You’ll hear many stories—some positive, some negative—about each brand. These are just individual perspectives.
Bad experiences can be found with any brand.
To increase your chances of a better outcome, consider purchasing from the company’s official or business divisions instead of consumer lines. However, this might not fit your budget.
My main advice:
Take your time.
Review as many opinions as possible.
Give anecdotes only moderate concern unless they are strongly negative.
Be prepared for some luck, since any decision can be affected by quality control problems.
Try to actually test the product to understand its keyboard and screen feel.
Avoid items with spinning hard drives.
Focus on raw CPU performance, as measured by Passmark. Don’t let marketing claims mislead you.
A brief check of your inventory suggests you might only have 8 GB RAM available at your price point.
I wouldn't focus too much on the i3 versus i5 choice for Intel chips. Just keep an eye on the Passmark scores.
Many brands you see in stores aren't familiar to Americans there—this might not matter.
