I have just received my 4090 and an EVGA 1300w Modular psu (220-GP-1300-X1). In my setup the card is only about 12 inches away from the psu. Do you know if there are shorter PCIe cables that are safe and approved for this configuration? I've heard about the 4090 plug melting, so I want to ensure full compatibility and proper installation.

You're asking about those terms G5 / G3 / G2 / P2 / T2. It seems you're trying to understand the specifications or components related to your PSU. You mentioned a GP in the part number and are unsure about the cables for the GP. Let me know if you'd like further clarification!

Shorter cables don't always work well. Regular lengths let for more flexibility and fewer bending issues. Managing cables properly is already tough enough without forcing compromises from overlapping wires.

I would avoid using any cables that the psu maker did not provide.
If EVGA offers a shorter cable kit for your psu, that's fine.
And... refrain from improving cable organization by employing a single 8/6+2 dual end cable.
Opt for separate cables for each 8 pin GPU connector.
