It seems there might be some confusion about how WinImage and HFSExplorer interact with HFS-formatted media. WinImage is primarily for converting images, while HFSExplorer is designed for viewing HFS files. Using HFSExplorer on an image file won't extract the actual data from the floppy. Stick to the appropriate tools for each format.

I didn't know about HFSExplorer. It lets you view a floppy image if you can create the file first.

It doesn't relate directly to WinImage. As long as it's an image of an HFS file system, it should be readable.

If the device includes an Ethernet connection, you can transfer data through it. Previously, this was not required on those units, but it's possible now. If absent, using a floppy disk remains the simplest method. Obtain a USB floppy for your computer, format it in DOS format, and insert it into a Mac. Version 7.5.5 supports reading from and writing to DOS disks. I would open the files on the Mac, save them as Word or Excel documents, then transfer them to the DOS floppy to test. You can also import Claris Works files and attempt to open them with LibreOffice, which may handle them better. Alternatively, download PDF Writer on the Mac (it might already be installed) and export the documents as PDFs for long-term storage, though editing them directly is limited. Another option is to paste the files into a Word document for improved formatting.

Here’s a revised version of your text:

The latest updates are promising, though I’ve included the 68kMLA forums link for further help with vintage Macs. You can visit https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php if you need more details.
