I still continue with my AMD pc issues after 2 years just another issue i have been having and would like your opions,
My setup
Ryzen 5 2400G
Msi B450m Mortar max
2x8gig sticks Lpx vengence
Kingston A400 480Gig ssd
450watt psu
My issue is i went to test some old drives listed below and when i plugged them in the case front panel usb 3.0 port but i couldnt get the my pc to to format them or delete volume in disk managment so imoved them to the other usb 3.0 port on my case and it managed to get few of them formatted or delete volume, but to get them all working well i had to disconnect usb 3.0 cable from motherboard and use a adapter to plug usb 3.0 cable to usb 2.0 on motherboard and now i can format or delete volume on all drives with no issues.

So my question is what could be the issue, and what controls the usb 3.0 front case ports, the cpu or the motherboard ? This isn't a case issue as i have tried 3 different cases and tried a different motherboard Asrock B450m pro4.
Could this be a cpu issue or motherboard issue and do i do the sensible thing and just return to a Intel system because after 2 years nearly 3 years i have had enough of trying to sort out these issues. I dont have a spare Amd cpu to try but was considering buying a 3200G which is going to be slower than my 2400G but if it gets rid of all these Amd issues i wouldnt mind.

450watt psu is the advertised power rating of this unit. What is the brand and model of the PSU, and how old is it at this stage? I've tested three different cases and used an Asrock B450m pro4 motherboard before. Could you tell me which case you're using now and what motherboard you were previously on?
Stop using the front panel USB3 ports and use the rear panel USB3 ports instead.
Shorten all USB3 cables to your external SSD/HDD drives as much as possible.
For USB-C drives, use cables no longer than 20cm (8in), preferably from trusted makers with fast SSDs.
For USB-A drives and hard disks, keep cables up to 30cm (1ft). I prefer Startech USB3 cables.
Extended cables inside the case from the motherboard to the front panel, or cables outside the case to portable drives, increase interference and risk data loss.
Turn off power management for all USB Root Hubs and Generic Hubs in Device Manager to prevent Windows from shutting down your drives and save energy.
Here is the setup as described:
The current configuration includes a Ryzen 5 2400G processor, an MSI B450m Mortar max motherboard, two 8GB LXP sticks, an Kingston A400 480GB SSD, an EVGA 450 BT 450W monitor, and an Antec case with two USB 3.0 ports. The PSU has multiple outputs such as Rail, +3.3V, +5V, +12V, -12V, and +5V for the display. The maximum power output is 18A, 35A, and 420W, with a total power consumption of 450W at +30C.
My HTPC features USB3 ports both on the rear and front panels. Does your model have them too?
A 21-inch size is quite large for a USB3 cable, particularly when considering the front panel cable layout inside the PC. Many cables provided with inexpensive hard drives are of poor quality and should be avoided.
Consider purchasing a 12-inch Startech cable and removing your HTPC from under your TV. Connect the portable drive directly to the back of the computer using a short cable. Position the drive on top of the PC and slide it back under the TV. You should still be able to detach the drive from the short connection. What are you risking?
I've tested my external drives using the front USB 3.0 ports for years, even with only a brief (about 6 inch) connection. The case includes a rubber seat designed for drives connected via those ports. I'm uncertain about the internal cable used by the board, but based on the layout, it's likely around 12 inches.
6in versus 21in might make all the difference. Consider testing the 6in lead once more.
The portable drives I rely on for my HTPC are Crucial X6 1TB and 2TB SSDs featuring 8in leads.
Remember, if you're connecting a 2.5in external hard disk, the 500mA power supply can lead to voltage drops in long cables. If the drive's voltage falls below 4.75V, it might not function properly.
It isn't cable, as I switched to a shorter one. I reconnected my USB 3 case cable directly back to the motherboard, then plugged in My Drive and it just connected and disconnected repeatedly until I removed it. After checking the Event Viewer, I saw this entry:
