i own an older asus g75v and it’s becoming quite heavy for my lap (about 10 pounds). i use it from 4 to 14 hours daily, mainly working from home. my left leg is already experiencing discomfort, so i’m looking for a lighter option. i noticed newer rog models weigh around 6 pounds, which might be a better fit. i came across a review mentioning the asus zephyrus s17’s optical-mechanical keys provide a distinct tactile feel. these keys produce a gentle, high-pitched clicking sound when pressed, unlike the silent membrane keys found on most laptops. this caught my attention because my old machine made no noise when typing, and i’m not sure about the clicking sound in newer models. i’ve seen some discussions in editor reviews, but i haven’t found any consumer feedback on this topic.

If they made the keyboard to mimic a mechanical then yes it's very likely it can make a louder sound than a standard membrane keyboard. Not sure why that would scare you, many people like the keyboard sounds when typing, in fact searching for a nice sound is one if the distinctions of a mechanical keyboard that people search after.
If you read reviews that state the keys make some noise it's safe to assume that is what they do, those that don't mention it may not even think about it as a thing to talk about, like saying "this nice car has seats and a steering wheel", it's just there and many users have no idea it's any different or a feature. Professional IT people and reviewers are more aware of things, I would pay more attention to them.

i use this at home but even in an office i can't picture people liking the sound of a keyboard clicking. i definitely don't want it while watching tv or talking to family. it would really annoy me. my old machine doesn't click at all, so i'm not sure i want a new one to make noise. it's like hearing someone shout loudly—it's unbearable. i saw a video online about how loud the new ROG machine is, and wow, it's not possible. i couldn't get it even if i wanted to. my old ROG also doesn't click properly. maybe i could replace the keyboard?

Have you ever worked in an office with old computers or typewriters? It's quite noisy. People don't really use mechanical keyboards that are louder in places where others are around, like co-workers or room-mates who are often present. That's considered bad form. I have a few quiet keyboards at work, but at home I use just a standard mechanical keyboard without any special quiet keys.
