Are games slowness when you start a fresh game?
Did you just hit a refresh button to fix your BIOS, and if so, did you also clean up the memory (CMOS)? If not, go ahead and do it now.
I meant I want AMD graphics drivers gone for good, not reinstalled. You just need the motherboard chipset driver and not the Radeon since you have an Nvidia card running. Also go in the BIOS and turn off the AMD integrated graphics so only your discrete GPU is used. And what kind of "stutter" are we talking about? Is it a quick drop in frame rate or a complete freeze that also messes up the sound? Please edit your comment to write my username correctly if you can, thanks.
Hey mate, sorry about that username, was just a typo (I fixed it). I didn't know I don't need AMD Radeon drivers if I use a Nvidia GPU. I thought I always had to install them for an AMD processor, so thanks for clearing that up! I'm going to remove the Radeon graphics driver now.
Originally, I only got a tiny bit of frame rate. But recently, I've noticed freezing which messed with my sound too. I guess it's because I set EXPO in the BIOS to full speed (6000 MTS), and I heard that could cause instability if set to max speed. However, I lowered that to 5800 MTS and now it seems like the sound glitch is gone. I hope I never get it again. If I do get it again, what should I do?
Regarding the micro stutter, I think things are a bit more stable now after installing the chipset driver. I still get some stutters though, but they happen less often and take longer to occur. I assume that's normal with these unoptimized games and the RTX 50 series for now too. Also, I noticed the stutters aren't as frequent the longer I play the game if that makes sense.
I also want advice: should I turn on X3D gaming mode in BIOS? Is it worth it or will it cause instability? I can't find a definite answer online.
What is your RAM cas latency? Your system should be able to handle 6000 MT/s CL30 (the sweet spot for the 9800X3D), but you need to make sure the RAM is running at 1.4 v after enabling expo. If it runs at 1.35, it's probably an XMP kit (optimized for Intel motherboards) and might not be fully stable at 6000 MT/s. If that is the case, just crank up the voltage to 1.4 v and you should be fine. As I understood, the X3D gaming mode turns off the second non-X3D CCD during gaming, but this is totally useless for the 9800X3D because it only has one CCD (unlike the Ryzen 9 X3Ds that have two CCDs, though only one of those has access to the X3D V-cache). I read that it also disables SMT (simultaneous multi-threading), which is a double-edged sword: it can slightly boost performance in some games but will definitely hurt your multi-threaded performance. So, I don't think this mode helps much with the 9800X3D.
The memory chip's speed setting says "CL 38." The manual also says this works for both modes, like XMP and EXPO, and it needs 1.35 volts. Should you still try turning up the power to 1.4 volts just in case?
If you are having trouble with 6000 MT/s, that's okay. Using CL38 at this speed isn't a big deal because it takes longer for commands to travel, so the system should handle it well. Try turning EXPO on and keep your clock at 6000 MHz while boosting the voltage up to 1.4 volts. Check if that makes a difference. If the sound glitch happens again, just reset to whatever you had before.
Hi all, I just wanted to thank everyone who responded and tried to help—seriously, you’ve all been amazing. The microstutters have significantly reduced. In fact, I didn’t notice any stutter for about 40 minutes of gaming. It did happen briefly after that, but I guess that’s to be expected now and then. For anyone else facing the same issue, here’s a summary of everything I did that helped: Uninstalled GPU drivers using DDU and installed fresh NVIDIA drivers Removed Radeon Graphics Drivers as I don't need them as I am using a Nvidia GPU Installed AMD chipset drivers Updated BIOS and cleared the CMOS Updated SSD firmware Disabled unnecessary startup applications via Task Manager Enabled EXPO in BIOS Disabled hardware acceleration in Discord Set Shader Cache to 10 GB in NVIDIA Global Settings using the NVIDIA App Hope this helps someone else out there. Thanks again, everyone!
