Hello everyone!
About a week back I began experiencing a strange issue with my PC – whenever I leave a game idle, it freezes completely after a minute or two. It can only be resolved via the task manager. After each freeze, Event Viewer displays the well-known "Event ID 153 from source nvlddmkm" error. The system functions normally otherwise; for instance, live streams or YouTube videos on the second monitor continue playing.
When I sit and play, the games run perfectly for hours. It only happens during idle states – specifically when I disconnect or switch to a different monitor to browse briefly.
This problem appeared suddenly, with no driver updates or Windows patches prior to it.
I've attempted various solutions related to that error, but nothing has resolved it so far.
My setup includes a GTX 4070, an i5-13600K processor, 32GB of DDR5 RAM, and I'm using Windows 11.
If anyone can assist me, I would really appreciate it – I’m starting to get frustrated. šŸ˜€
Cheers!

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!
every time i leave a game idle
What game would this be?
I've tried most of the fixes related to the nvlddmkm error, but so far nothing helped.
Did you use DDU in Safe Mode to remove all GPU drivers(intel, AMD and Nvidia) to reboot and manually install the latest GPU driver sourced from Nvidia's support site in an elevated command, i.e, Right click installer>Run as Administrator?
I have a GTX 4070, i5-13600k and 32gigs of DDR5 RAM and i'm on Win11
Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

CPU model: Intel Core i5-13600K OEM
Cooler: be quiet! DARK ROCK PRO 4
Motherboard: GIGABYTE Z790 GAMING X AX
Memory: Kingston FURY Beast Black 32gb
Storage: SSD Samsung 980 1Tb
GPU: GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4070 EAGLE OC 12G
Power Supply: MSI MPG A750GF
Case: LIAN LI LANCOOL 215
Operating System: Windows 11 Home version 25H2
Display: AOC Q27G2S/EU
All parts were purchased in July 2023. I updated the BIOS afterward and used DDU for drivers.
Lately, during gameplay of Hi-FI Rush, Necesse, Zenless Zone Zero, Crown and Adventure, freezing occurred in every title except Necesse.
I often encounter this error consistently. Crown and Adventure freeze quickly after idling for a few minutes or two. Recently, I tried leaving ZZZ idle and it also froze and closed after about ten minutes.

Hi both, I've checked and found the same issue. It began around the end of December when I installed Black Myth Wukong (maybe by chance). Since then, my games have kept crashing, but only when idle for 30 seconds consistently. I've tried changing settings like Windows performance mode, adjusting HAGs, setting BIOS Global-C state, and reinstalling the driver.
