Are games crashing after overclocking?
I recently increased my i7-2600k to 4.4ghz from 3.4ghz using a 1.350v setup, and upgraded the RAM with Patriot Viper 3 DDR3-1600mhz to 1866mhz at 1.500v. So far, every game crashes after just a minute. The motherboard is an ASUS Maximus IV GEN-Z. Any suggestions?
Hey sorry for the delayed response. It looks like my mobile doesn't respond well when I try to overclock the RAM, as it stopped crashing once I returned it to stock speeds. Currently, my 2600k is stable at 4.7ghz (may aim for 5ghz), and my RAM is at 1600mhz, which matches the stock setting. My system details are: i7-2600k 4.7ghz, Asus Maximus IV Gen-Z mobo, 16gb Patriot Viper 1600mhz, GTX 1060gb, Corsair H100x AIO, Segotep 650w PSU 80+ gold.
The temperatures were really high. I was using a Rosewill rcx-z300 cooler, which kept Warzone at 85°C. I left the game right away and got a Corsair H100X. Now the temps are about 55°C max while playing. I also increased the CPU to 4.7ghz and it stayed stable. But if I touch the RAM a bit, the system won't start. Any ideas?
The Patriot RAM is already maximized since your CPU only accepts DDR3-1333 with JEDEC voltages. It could potentially perform better with additional DRAM and higher memory controller voltages, but Sandy Bridge didn’t feature a memory controller capable of significant increases beyond 1600MT/s. Ivy Bridge did offer some improvement there. Consider adjusting the timings instead.
