Are gamers becoming lazier?
I'm not sure if laziER is the best choice. Game development makes these tasks more enjoyable. Try playing zork 1; it requires a full keyboard and is just text-based. It demands more effort but offers less reward. During the pre-computer era, my dad once taught me how to craft matchstick darts using available materials. It was much simpler than carving one.
You might say that for sure. A game that is too easy, however, tends to rely on luck since you need to guess your opponent's moves. But only up to a point. To go back to your main idea: I believe you could be dealing with a 'bubble'—believing something is extremely popular just because it suits your own play style. As someone who mainly played a few RTS games, not many MMO's or MOBA's, I don’t think the whole picture is accurate. Of course, in some areas or groups certain genres are more favored, but overall there have been many different types of games that gained popularity.
Twitch isn't the sole measure for assessing a game's popularity, though
I was mainly talking about earlier times.
Twitch has existed since 2011 and Justin.tv since 2007. So you're going to think I could correctly evaluate how popular each of those genres was before Twitch...?
