Are AsRock motherboards bringing bad luck?
I assembled a fresh desktop using the DeskMeet 300x AMD bareboard. Added a Ryzen 7 3700x, 2x 8GB RAM, an M.2 1TB card, and a TB SSD. Installed Windows 10 with updates. When attempting GPU driver installation, I encountered a black screen of death. Spent a week trying fixes—even updating the BIOS—but nothing worked. Swapped in a Ryzen 5 5600x and an RX 6600, but the issue persisted. Replaced the A320M-HDV R4.0 motherboard with the same problem. The GPU would crash during installation or even before loading drivers. Both motherboards failed when installing Windows 10. Tested all drives to check for hardware faults. Could it be that both boards are defective? The system was brand new, and the A320M-HDV R4.0 was used. Should I opt for a different board made by another manufacturer instead of the Asrock one?
Hardware issues can still occur even with new components. Have you checked the RAM modules or power supply unit? The GPU brand wasn’t mentioned—could it be a specific model? Did you install the drivers from the manufacturer or directly from AMD? Sometimes updates are made by the makers, which might affect compatibility. Regarding Asrock, did you enable chipset drivers and ensure Windows was fully updated before adding GPU drivers? This could be linked to the problem. Good luck!
Thanks for the update. The PSU was brand new for the basic setup. I also replaced the 500W PSU with another for the A320m HDV R4.0 motherboard. I installed the chipset on both boards and updated Windows completely. Whenever I tried to download drivers from Amd.com, the screen would flicker and the system would crash, forcing a reboot or requiring a full reinstall.
My issue ended up being mere bad luck. The video cards were the main problem all along. One was used while the other arrived fresh from Newegg.com and was returned right away. I bought an inexpensive RX 580 with 8GB from Amazon, which is performing perfectly. As soon as Newegg gets my returned card, I’ll place an order for another RX 6600 XT.
