I'm considering constructing an arcade cabinet for my new home. The PC I assembled about a decade ago might still handle running PS3 arcade titles, but I'm unsure if the components would be sufficient.

Traditional arcade titles are truly exceptional. The Sony PS3 emulation is just beginning and demands significantly more resources than a standard computer.

Are 6th generation titles and older sufficient on this hardware?

Up to PS2 it's fine with just the iGPU, unless you need scaling, filters, effects, etc., the PS3 can handle some games, though not the most demanding ones.

You're asking about whether upgrading the CPU to a high-end i7 would suffice, or if you'd need to also upgrade the GPU and RAM. Your current setup includes a GTX 1080 Ti or Titan with 16GB RAM (two 8GB modules).

A modern monster CPU would be needed to achieve smooth performance at 30 FPS in games such as Red Dead, but an i7 wouldn't make much difference.

The more I consider this, the less I feel the need to copy anything from the seventh generation onward. I could also install a console inside the arcade cabinet and connect it to the monitor to access any up-to-date games.

Because you own the PC, why not give it a shot and find out? Many classic titles run on one thread. Switching to an i7 brings more threads, though the speed gain from a single core remains just about ten percent.

Okay thanks for the info. I'm going to see if the PC still works first. Then test it for a little while as you suggested. The main purpose of the cabinet is for old school arcade games nothing really past 6th gen. Maybe the odd fighting games Street Fighter 6 but I'll just hooked the PS5 to the monitor and hide inside the cabinet. Thank you again everyone for the advice.
