Hello, I’m seeking recommendations for language learning tools, focusing on Russian, Portuguese, and Afrikaans. Since many options exist, I want to avoid Rosetta Stone due to its high cost. I’m open to free or one-time purchase solutions, even if upgrades become necessary later. Your background in linguistics is valuable here, so it could assist in making the right choice. Additionally, I’d appreciate insights from users who have tried these programs or guidance on what to look for when starting. Thanks! Looking forward to your responses.

Additionally, it seems they don’t offer Russian support at the moment. It functions similarly to the Rosetta Stone but is free and built by a community. The app works across all devices and is quite user-friendly. The only issue I noticed is with grammar; I haven’t found a suitable tool for that yet.

Someone suggested checking out more options. I've been interested in these languages for a long time to connect with friends and family. Thanks! I'm starting now.

That's interesting, I wasn't aware of the additional choices they introduced... sure, if we've been giving it a pass.

I understand, but my experience with Duolingo has been limited to just a few lessons. I’m looking for more comprehensive materials now, since learning Russian is crucial for my goals—especially joining the army. Duolingo focuses mainly on vocabulary and phrases, but I want to grasp grammar and structure. Maybe someone with similar experience can share better options, like Living Languages: Russian Edition or The New Penguin Book on Russian. Any recommendations would be appreciated!
