For your flight sim using a typical XInput controller, you're considering RT/R2 for throttle and LT/L2 for brakes. This setup works because both have momentary axes (0-255). It's feasible, but remember that keeping RT/R2 pressed is essential to maintain throttle and fully engaging R2 will activate the afterburner. If you release it, engines return to idle. When linked to a racing wheel, the gas pedal behaves similarly.

I think some inexpensive HOTAS or throttle setups employ that method. The only advice I can give is to apply a single value for acceleration and deceleration—like setting higher numbers for acceleration, 125 for idle, and lower for air brakes. This should keep LT available for other functions.

Zero is the default setting for triggers, not 125. Using this method would trigger full brakes instead of releasing RT.
