I found a small amount of thermal paste on the PCB of my CPU. The connections are all clear. Would it be safe to use it in a new assembly? Using a soft brush and isopropyl alcohol might not be necessary if this paste isn’t likely to cause issues. Thanks!

What type of thermal paste should I use? Does it need to be non-conductive? If it’s conductive, make sure there are no remaining traces or else you might damage the CPU when the computer starts up.

I repeat what was said earlier... make sure the paste doesn’t connect any of the pins. I did the same when I swapped out my stock cooler for a better model. It took roughly ten minutes. I used a very thin blade with a paper towel (just a tiny piece) and gently rubbed it between the pins slowly until the green PCB was visible around all of them. After that, I put it back in and everything works perfectly.
