Hello, I need to ask about a recent BIOS update. I’m planning to build my own PC and came across PCPartPicker. It looks like my motherboard requires a BIOS update because my CPU isn’t supported. I’m curious if it’s possible to perform a BIOS update on an unsupported CPU with a motherboard that doesn’t have BIOS flashback support. My setup is a 5700X running on a Gigabyte B550 board.

1) Utilizing a powered CPU
2) Employing an EEPROM programmer alongside a separate PC (advanced setup)
3) Transferring to Gigabyte for updating the BIOS

purchase one from Best Buy, refresh it, then hand back the CPU. Oops, locate someone with a more recent chip. (working with friends is tough—remember, asking Discord buddies isn’t enough if they won’t deliver it)

AMD offers a service where they provide an older CPU for loan to help with updates, if you meet the criteria: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/pa-105 All B550 boards come with Zen 3 built-in. The caution about PCPP is no longer relevant.

Someone mentioned that obtaining a B550 board would be extremely rare these days, especially if you want Zen3 support. The PCPP warning often confuses users, but it’s no longer relevant for this situation.
