Hello, I've been experiencing frequent freezes in my apps whenever file management functions were triggered. For instance, Steam would become unresponsive for a few minutes during installation attempts, and the installation wizard would stall when I clicked "browse." Adobe applications would lag significantly while opening files, and even opening Zip files would cause the explorer.exe to freeze completely. At one point, launching any Zip file with Windows Explorer resulted in the entire process freezing. Although this isn't a critical issue, I've become curious about its root cause. Despite installing two new SSDs, upgrading RAM and CPU, and reinstalling Windows twice, the problem persisted. My current system specs are: Ryzen 3600, Asrock B450M Pro-4f, 16GB, 2666MHz, GTX-1070, 1TB Toshiba HDD (from around 2016), 256GB WD Black NVME SSD (new), 128GB SATA SSD (~2019), and 512GB Adata SSD SATA (new).
Review your window power plan options to confirm the hard drives aren’t put to sleep after inactivity. They might remain in sleep mode, causing delays when programs need access. Adjust the power settings so the drives stay active and test if the issue resolves. Persistent freezing suggests a failing drive.
