Attempting to execute FrostyFix, a mod fix for Star Wars Battlefront II on Steam, has been challenging. I previously ran it on an older version but it no longer works with the current BF2 setup. I've made several PC modifications since then, including upgrading processors and graphics cards. The program remains open in Task Manager, but I can't close it as it's still active in another application.
I aim to identify a shared element.
To achieve this, I would utilize Process Explorer (Microsoft, free).

Streamline the tasks, applications, processes, services—anything you intentionally don’t need running.
Start with a clean boot, no games or programs active.
Use Process Explorer (administrator privileges) to understand what’s happening.
This process may require some adjustments and patience, as you’ll need to refine settings to uncover the problem.
Try using PowerShell or TaskKill to terminate the process.

Check first, confirm the target process.
Use Process Explorer (Microsoft, free) to locate and verify the suspect process.

The information provided states that you need to turn off this whenever you play any other Frostbite game or if you run into problems with other titles.
You should run the program anew each time you wish to play another Frostbite game, either to disable mods or switch to a different game.
Please check the instructions carefully to make sure you haven’t missed any important steps, especially since you mentioned you "fell out of BF2".
For instance, step 5 says: "To disable Frosty Fix, click Disable Mods."
If this doesn’t work, examine Task Manager > Startup and Task Scheduler to see if FrostyFix launches again during startup or shortly after.
Take your time browsing the Task Scheduler and avoid making any changes until you understand what’s happening. Look for triggers related to Star Wars or similar themes.
After stopping the FrostyFix process, refrain from trying to open it again.
Instead, visit the source website, download FrostFix manually, and reinstall or reconfigure.
The latest version might be damaged or contain bugs.
I am following the instructions, and I have attempted redownloading and testing various versions of the program.
I also tried launching vanilla BF2 from Steam, and BF2 behaves similarly to FrostyFix: it opens in Task Manager but provides no window.
Interestingly, I've encountered the same problem with a third-party application called Mordhau, which uses LuteBot—something I previously relied on but have since stopped using.
It seems this issue might extend beyond just BF2 and FrostyFix. The challenge is that I don't know exactly what's causing it.
I've tried enabling these programs through my firewall and antivirus, yet they still won't open.
Uncertain about further options.

Additional suggestions and ideas are available for the Windows Club link provided. It's important to confirm that all crucial files are backed up at least twice and stored on different devices not linked to the current host. Check if the saved files can be recovered and read. The response about the program opening in another app isn't very helpful. Also, this issue has occurred with a third-party game called Mordhau—consider uninstalling or deleting it.
The issue isn't solely about launching in another program, because among the three situations where this occurs—FrostyFix, BF2, and LuteBot—only FrostyFix is linked to opening another application.
I managed to remove and reinstall LuteBot multiple times without issues, but haven’t tried it on BF2 because of its size, and since reinstalling LuteBot didn’t resolve the problem, it still doesn’t create a window.
The concern lies in why these three programs seem to appear partially open yet not show any interface.
FrostyFix and BF2 are connected through shared content, as FrostyFix is a mod for BF2. LuteBot, however, has no overlap with the other two. It operates on Mordhau, which shares Steam with BF2, but LuteBot doesn’t depend on Steam at all.
In my experience, it’s unclear why all three would exhibit the same behavior, and I’m unsure why other programs don’t face the same issue.
