Application malfunctions unexpectedly.
I'm facing a puzzling issue here. Various titles (Dual Universe, Baldur's Gate III, WH40k Darktide) plus Discord and sometimes other programs will suddenly crash. Usually, the Event Viewer shows nothing. Most of my machines are less powerful yet still run smoothly.
Details: OS – Windows 11 Pro 64-bit (version 10.0, build 22621)
Processor – i9-13900K (default settings)
Memory – G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB DDR5-6000, 32GB x2 (XMP enabled at 6000)
Motherboard – ROG STRIX Z790-E GAMING WIFI (BIOS 1202)
Power Supply – Corsair AX1200i (1200W, 80 PLUS Platinum)
GPU1 – Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 Ti Founders Edition (driver 536.99)
GPU2 – EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 FTW GAMING Drive: Crucial 2TB - CT2000P3SSD8
What I've tried:
- Disabled all apps except Windows services, refreshed and reinstalled clean OS multiple times.
- Ran a 980 Pro that failed; current install uses Crucial drive.
- CrystalDisk reported drives healthy.
- Memtest86 confirmed RAM integrity (default and parallel settings, extra tests).
- Removed all extra peripherals.
- Uninstalled and reinstalled GPU drivers.
- Used only one GPU.
- Swapped to a different GPU (EVGA GeForce 3080 FTW Ultra).
- Applied default BIOS settings; temperatures normal.
It seems I might have missed some steps earlier. No signs of motherboard problems, power issues, or app errors. I'm usually quick at fixing things but this one is giving me trouble. Please help. Thank you.
I stumbled upon a similar article that closely matches the problems I'm facing. There are strange crashes and frequent kernel event logs. The processor remains under warranty, so I'm planning to check if a replacement can be arranged within that policy.
Appreciate the sentiment. I'm a software developer by trade and I've built computers as a hobby, so troubleshooting is second nature to me. I'm not prideful enough to think I couldn't have possibly missed anything, though, so I'd hoped someone had a bit of insight that I might have missed. I've got a request in to Intel now and just waiting on an initial response if they want me to do more troubleshooting. It would explain the occasional blue screens of death I get as well.
I thought it was time to make a change and update. The main reason came from problems with 13th and 14th generation chips that eventually got attention. I focused on the processor—Intel updated it, but the same issues followed. They issued a warranty refund, I tried the 14900k again, but the same problems persisted. Eventually, I received the refund and switched to AMD's 7950X3D.
