For a laptop, it makes sense to apply nail polish. On a desktop, protection doesn’t seem necessary.

Is there not a risk of it seeping out between the cooler and IHS causing a short on the socket/board?

I noticed some users achieving a square pattern around 5mm on the HIPS using a razor blade, which might help contain it if it moves. I also tried a delidded and Liquid Metal sandwich at 8700k for five years without any issues, especially when keeping the PC stationary. Are there any thermal throttling concerns? What are your main objectives?

However, you shouldn't apply it above the IHS.

It can cause issues if not properly prepared, as heat transfer efficiency depends on surface contact and cleanliness. Using it without delidding might not improve heat transfer significantly over thermal paste.

The machine reaches 95°C during heavy use. It was originally assembled by a former worker. The 13900K model is still in good condition, and the boss prefers not to replace it. I wondered if skipping the cooling lid would improve heat management.
