You're looking at how the Modbus TCP switch functions in your setup. It likely manages communication between devices like your Synology NAS and the UPS, allowing remote monitoring or control. The USB connection to your NAS should trigger a safe shutdown when the UPS powers down. For the Ubiquity switch and gateway, they probably use the same network interface for centralized management. Regarding PowerChute, it works with USB hubs but may require specific drivers or configurations depending on your system setup.

It seems to be a communication protocol using TCP/IP, possibly for security purposes. The setup might involve physical controls over a UPS system, allowing access management via network connections. A safeguard against unauthorized changes. Regarding the other point, connecting directly to the device could prevent server shutdowns during power issues if the hub fails.

Instead of storing the configuration on the NAS, you could set it up directly on your QNAP device. I configured everything through the web interface on the NAS, but the main issue is that the NAS only receives the shutdown command.

I’m thinking about what I’ll do if my Synology NAS connects with the UPS. Since I don’t own the UPS yet, I can’t try it out. The only adjustable settings in Synology are delay and battery levels for shutdown timing. The PowerChute UPS offers more configuration options, but I’m worried about using both a NAS and a PC on the same UPS because there’s just one USB port available.

You're stuck. What alternatives should be considered? Usually, turning off the NAS is the best approach before the UPS fails.
