We recently relocated to a new residence and am getting my home network up and running. This is my first time dealing with networking, so I’m still learning. I searched online but didn’t find a clear solution, so please understand this might repeat earlier discussions. We benefit from fiber optics (EPB in Chattanooga, TN) and have a 1,000 Mbps connection. Currently, the ASUS RT-AC3200 serves as the main router upstairs, while an older ASUS RT-AC1900 functions as an access point at the lower level. Upstairs I achieve 400–500 Mbps via Wi-Fi, but downstairs usage drops to around 100 Mbps. There’s a wired connection in the living room, and I’m considering whether to purchase a dedicated access point like the UAP-AC-PRO-US or upgrade the existing RT-AC1900 as an access point. My aim is to match the wireless speeds upstairs while extending the signal into the backyard, which is on the back wall of the house. Let me know if you need any clarification.

Purchasing a router and setting it to AP mode means you're spending on features you don't need.

It looks like you're looking for a suitable access point recommendation. Considering a coverage area of around 1500 sq ft and a budget of up to $200, I’d suggest exploring options within that range. Let me know if you'd like more details!
