I just installed the new system today. I checked everything: RAM slot changed, pin inserted correctly, CPU fan spinning twice, ATX connectors reattached, SATA cable to SSD verified. Still unsure if anything is missing. Please help!
Brand new processor in an old board, did you update the BIOS yet?
I purchased all those new ones recently... I don’t have the budget for the X570... I believed the B450 doesn’t require a BIOS update based on my research, or perhaps I’m mistaken. If I need to update the BIOS, how can I do it since I can’t access it at startup?
It requires a BIOS upgrade. If it lacks a BIOS flashback capability that lets you update the BIOS without a CPU, you’ll need to obtain a first or second-generation Ryzen processor to perform the update.
AMD previously distributed placeholder chips for BIOS upgrades, you might reach out to them to check availability (they’ll need your return after use). Alternatively, you could purchase a 2xxx chip, install it to refresh the BIOS, and then send it back to the retailer.
Will it function correctly since the latest BIOS excludes Bristol Ridge APUs? Fortunately, a Ryzen 1200 is now very affordable.
I faced a comparable problem before... and let me say, I had a tiny dust particle between the CPU and the board. Inspect the CPU—it was worth a shot. Sometimes it’s so minuscule you don’t even notice during installation, especially around the time of upgrading. You might also attempt using a fresh PSU, unplugging all components, and booting just the CPU. Make sure you hear the boot sound.
When the box lacks the Ryzen 3000 label, the BIOS version may be outdated.
