Aorus 3080 Xtrem is brand new but experiencing random GPU crashes.
Hey, I've been using my new watercooled PC for about three weeks now. I've experienced some random GPU crashes. My setup includes: -Ryzen 9 5900X, B550 AORUS ELITE AX V2, and a 3080 AORUS Xtreme WATERFORCE 10G 2.0. I've updated to Windows 11 Pro 21H2 and GeForce Experience with 527.56 drivers. During gameplay (Fallout and GTA5), the system crashes every 5 minutes to an hour. Both screens go black with no cursor or task manager, just a "no signal" alert. I'm left with only the manual reboot option. Temperatures are normal, GPU usage is within limits, and VRAM appears okay. No overheating issues—cards stay below 60°C at all times. I haven't overclocked anything. I've already swapped the GPU from a rev1 to a rev2 (brand new) and tried different PCIe ports, risers, BIOS resets, and even another old GPU on the new machine. Everything works fine there. Recently, I read some negative reviews about the GIGABYTE RTX 3080 AORUS Xtreme WATERFORCE 10G 2.0. I'm starting to think maybe all these cards are faulty. After all, Aorus is a big brand—what could be wrong? Am I missing something or just unlucky? Thanks ahead, Regs.
Always running under pressure. The most surprising part is I can run a 3DMark stress test without issues, but not for continuous gaming sessions. That’s why I’m confused. My setup uses a Cooler Master MWE 850W PSU. For the 3080 series, it’s advised to use a minimum of 750W, so I assumed having at least 100W extra.
benchmarks usually lack the sharp peaks seen in games... it might be your PSU, though I'm not sure... honestly, 850W is performing well for a 3080. Yes, I understand the suggestions, but the 3000-series models tend to have strong transient power spikes and many PSUs struggle with that.
I reduced the drivers to around 500, but the issue persists. For power-related problems, do you have any way to track it, similar to afterburner metrics like power and power percentage? Are the spikes too minor to notice? You mentioned you're considering replacing the GPU and possibly upgrading the PSU to 1000W if needed.
