Anybody play Elite Dangerous?
I downloaded this game last week and have spent around four hours playing so far. It's the VR version, and I've tried using voice commands through a voice attack, though with limited success (it only recognizes my voice about half the time). I'm also using a standard controller, which lets me perform basic actions like deploying hard points and flying. At the moment, I can only fly around, do some frame shifts (just barely), and leave the dock. There are countless guides available, but I need something that starts from the beginning and clearly explains what to do. This game seems promising, but the learning curve is much steeper than any other game I've played!
Begin by mastering the ship controls, exploring navigation through galaxy and system maps, and learning docking procedures at stations. What you do to earn money depends largely on your choices.
Possible options include bounty hunter, miner, explorer, or haul (passengers or cargo).
If you aim to be a fighter pilot and take on pirate bounty hunting or attack missions from stations, you likely won’t focus on technical details like discovery scanners or refineries at first.
Search for guides tailored to your desired role and focus on that aspect of the game. If you grow bored, switch to something else.
There’s a lot of information available, and it may not all relate to your chosen role, which can feel overwhelming.
A joystick and throttle are better than a gamepad, especially with VR. The Thrustmaster T16000M Hotas seems to offer great value right now, and the stock ED mapping works well with some adjustments.
Almost every docking station can provide refueling for your vessel, though at a cost. As you progress to bigger ships and varied weaponry, not all stations will satisfy every requirement. Initially, your main priority should be acquiring a fuel scoop, enabling you to refuel across most star types. This helps avoid running out of fuel during your voyage. You might still face empty fuel at stations that don’t offer scoops, but careful planning and keeping some reserve fuel can help you reach places where refueling is possible. Often, people begin by exchanging rare items between stations. Utilize online ED databases to locate stations with rare goods located more than 100 light years apart, allowing for trade exchanges in both directions (provided they’re permissible at both locations). These sites typically have minimal purchase costs and high sale prices, but shipments are limited in quantity and take time to arrive. By the time you reach your destination and return, they’ll usually restocked. Because supplies are scarce and timing is crucial, this method works well for early earnings but becomes more complex with larger cargo ships that need careful route planning. Also remember, carrying cargo makes you vulnerable to pirates—try to evade them or move quickly if they try to stop you, or escape to safer space when possible. Fighting them on your own with a low-capacity ship usually results in failure. After gaining some income, consider purchasing and upgrading ships for your intended use.
Thank you a lot, I’ll try it out this evening. I think I need to work on docking first.
I spent around an hour last night trying to figure out how to secure a job after docking at the Dawson station. I need to collect fish from somewhere and bring it to a specific place—maybe she already provided me with the necessary supplies. I’m unsure if this is the right approach. The main question is, where should I go? I checked the in-game guide about trading, which suggests picking up supplies in an area with low price and demand, then delivering them to a high-price, high-demand area. But that seems unrelated to my situation. It also mentions a blue icon next to the system when it’s in high supply. On my destination panel, I don’t see anything similar.
There is some trading information involving galaxy map filters, but I prefer using one of the ED database websites to search for your commodities.
