Don't think it is that, I should mention that the game does NOT carry out the ages mechanics that many RTS have, you start out with the castle, and your job is to wage war. You can develop buildings and manage the economy. Now that I think about it, there is this building that allows you to create legendary people to fight for you, like merlin. And some dragons. But you start out with the same castle building that you are supposed to end the game with.

I noted that it begins with a chess board, not a game board. I distinctly recall it being a chess match. It’s understandable you got confused.

It's noteworthy he referenced Age of Empires early on, but it seems Age of Empires doesn't feature a happiness meter, and not all real-time strategy titles share the same opening sequence.
