I'm interested in knowing the ages of the youngest participants I've worked with—whether they were children or others. What activities did we play together? How did those experiences feel?

I ran into a 10 or 11-year-old boy in Hell Let Loose, and it was a really bad time being part of his group.

Helldivers 2 would be a fun game with younger kids. I remember loving Devil May Cry when I was around 10 (with respect to hyper violence, but not towards humans). You're just killing giants bugs and robots, so there's no morality issue of killing people and seeing blood and gore. Well, your fellow Helldivers can also die pretty badly, but it's amusing. I tried playing Space Marine 2 last Friday and I refunded it after 80 minutes. I'm not interested in serious shooters after playing 220hrs of HD2 lol. Vampire Survivors has a co-op mode now. Uhhhh, there's always the classic Rocket League and Minecraft. Hell, I've met so many coworkers in their late-30s/early-40's that spoil their teenage kids with RTX 4080 desktop computers just so they can play Minecraft.

i grew up with educational games, and the kid's classics like putt-putt and freddi fish. that was in the days of single computer households and no internet, though... on a more modern selection: minecraft trailmakers scrap mechanic there's also a WIDE selection of cartoony tycoon-style games that are plenty of fun for all ages, just to name a few: two point hospital, voxel tycoon, planet coaster, etc. oh, and special mention to zeepkist, because silly racing games have been pulled to a new level. PEGI 18 "yeah, play this with young kids"

Children will always seek ways. What you can do is stay involved or watch over them so issues are handled constructively. I don’t suggest letting them play intense games like Grand Theft Auto or Call of Duty (such as the notorious airport incident in Modern Warfare 2). There’s a distinction between the intensity of The Last of Us and the intensity of games like God of War 1-3, as well as topics like alcohol, drugs, and talking about relationships.

kids will discover ways, so let’s start introducing them to tough topics as early as possible? yes, there are moments and places when rules can be adjusted… but rather than outright refusing and acting secretly, it’s better to engage with them directly. “they will find a way” is a weak argument that could easily justify giving anything to children. on the other hand… should we wait until they’re older and more interested in trying things like beer? maybe we should look at the South Park episode about spoiled girls as a sign of poor sex education? i completely agree that the PEGI 18 rating shouldn’t be tied to a specific age, but it shows how mature one needs to be to understand game concepts. *recommending* parents ignore this entirely is poor parenting, yet suggesting adaptability based on the child’s maturity could actually be very helpful—especially if parents are even slightly aware. just keep these ideas separate, like you’re trying to understand.”

I have children aged 9, 11, and 13 who enjoy Roblox, Minecraft, and Tocaworld for the younger ones. The 13-year-old plays Minecraft, Fortnite, and Apex. I also play a fair amount of Fortnite and Minecraft with them—it's enjoyable and offers valuable learning opportunities. When I’m not playing with them, I’ve noticed some 14-15-year-olds on Rust and DayZ. Some are very negative and toxic, especially on Rust, while others are more balanced. Right now, I mostly play relaxed PVE or extremely challenging servers, which helps reduce the more harmful behavior. There are kids around that age on a Rust PVE server I play on—they’re quite skilled and contribute positively to the community.

I mean if we're going to dismiss all common sense and take wild examples, why even discuss this? Honestly, we don't really know the age of the OP's kids (or if they're even talking about their own). If it's about 8-year-olds, then absolutely skip HD2. If it's about 10-year-olds, go ahead. That's fifth-grade level. Everyone at that age is a bit difficult with a developing personality. They can grasp the seriousness and details of things like "big bug go splat" or "robot go boom." They definitely know what guns are thanks to Fortnite.
