I’ve reached out to Reddit for assistance, but most responses came with condescension. Here’s my query: My CPU hits full capacity in most games when it shouldn’t. It was performing well until I replaced my motherboard—my previous one had been causing problems. Now my GPU is struggling under CPU pressure it didn’t before. Could a motherboard setting be contributing to this issue? My system specs are: 12700k, 32GB DDR5 5600MHz, Intel 9070xt, 1TB SSD, 850W PSU.
Verify CPU-Z for dual-channel RAM activity. Apply Intel PresentMon or MSI Afterburner to track utilization and temperatures during gaming.
These would be titles demanding high processing power. Factorio stands out due to its heavy CPU usage, meaning it tends to reach full capacity quickly at 1080p compared to lower resolutions like 1440p or 4K, which rely more on the GPU.
We should understand your motherboard model to assess its effect. The board can affect CPU speed mainly through VRM overheating. The 9070XT is quite capable compared to the 12700K, possibly causing a 1080p limitation. It might also be due to power settings being adjusted to a less efficient mode.
I use 1440p and used to be on a Z690 Aorus Elite now I'm on a Z790 ASUS TUF.
I evaluated cyberpunk, monster hunter wilds, dragons dogma 2, marvel rivals, and last of us part 1 in 1440p resolution. Performance didn’t hit full 100% CPU until I changed my hardware.
I relied on hwmonitor, but temperatures stayed below 70°C. However, the cores consistently exceeded 100% utilization.
I turned on xmp and enabled multicore enhancement by default on Intel. Marvel rivals stands out as the only title without a 100 usage setting, which works well. League of Legends is solid, but I’m worried about GPU-heavy games getting limited. In Last of Us I got full GPU power but also full CPU load. Cyberpunk fluctuates between 99 and 70 depending on CPU load, while Monster Hunter stays around 85-90 with CPU at 100. Dragons Dogma performed okay before I changed my hardware; it ran smoothly before the switch too.
Alright that checks out That then checks out You can run that with a potato so dont even care about that one Almost impossible unless your CPU is that weak (yours isnt) If a game is more GPU demanding it means the CPU isnt being utilized all that much ie its very unlikely for the CPU to be the Bottleneck there Again it is a bad PC port Cyberpunk I explained why as Phantom liberty changed its standing on what it demans and how much of that MHW is one of the best examples of poorly optimised games so dont worry too much about that So dragons dogma you did not in fact test you just played that before As for MHW, define running good and how that changed now?
