Ants in the laptop!
I observed some ant droppings near your laptop exhaust and noticed more ants falling when you tapped. It seems they’re attracted to the warmth from the laptop. I tried using a hairdryer in cool mode to blow air through the vents, which helped for a while without any ant problems. Now there are again ants inside. I’ve moved the laptop around but they still seem to find it. Any suggestions? Right now I can’t take it to a repair shop since it’s still under warranty, and I don’t want to open it.
If you're ready, you can open it up and remove the ants. Using two baking trays—a smaller and a larger—works well. Place your laptop in the smaller tray, then put it inside the larger one filled with water to create a barrier that prevents the ants from crossing. This helps keep more of them out.
If you don’t have pets or kids around, grab some liquid bait for terro and place it in a disposable tray you usually use for microwave meals. Position it close enough to your laptop so they can detect the scent. The goal is to create a slick layer that traps them, making it hard for them to escape back to their hiding spot inside the device. You may need to repeat this a few times. For those who miss the bait, have a bottle of Windex or another powerful cleaner ready.
I plan to try the baking tray technique. I can open the laptop without any problems, but it would cancel the warranty. Today they laid eggs inside—eggs everywhere on my keyboard. I moved it to another spot earlier. For now, I’ll do a cinebench to warm it up to high temperatures. Hope the ants don’t escape... and then I’ll switch to the tray method from now on.
