AntiViirus comparison: Bitdefender available for free trial or paid subscription?
Hey everyone, What is your take on purchasing a paid AV (Bitdefender in particular) versus just using a free Antivirus such as AVG Free. I have used AVG for all my computers for years, but the more I read about Bitdefender (MaximumPC article, online reviews, etc) the more I like it. It is about $60 for a year for one PC. I have never had an issue with AVG but it does get quite annoying with the incessant ads/features i cant use/etc. I have used AVG to clean out friends/clients computers before without an issue. Just food for thought. Let me know what you think. Here is a link to Bitdefenders website: http://www.bitdefender.com/solutions/win...urity.html
Antivirus costs are becoming unnecessary, it doesn’t matter how long you’ve paid them. Five years ago, it made sense to invest in protection. Consider alternatives like Malwarebytes, MSE, Avast, or Panda.
Bitdefender is likely the top choice for antivirus protection, offering advanced tools and strong security for your budget. For most users, it’s unnecessary unless you have specific needs or tech-savvy individuals relying on it. Free antivirus acts like having a basic security measure, while paid versions provide enhanced capabilities. Investing in paid protection is similar to upgrading to a more powerful tool—less intrusive and more reliable when threats arise.
They don't offer much value since you can achieve the same protection in a non-administrator account with parental controls active, and most viruses now come from Java drive-by attacks—still 100% uncertainty. Even with antivirus software, it often complicates removal. It's like trying to plug the Titanic with a wine cork.
On my personal PC I don't believe paying for antivirus software is necessary. I typically use AVG free and also download other free options when needed. My go-to tools are Malwarebytes, Avast, AVG, Avira, and Essentials. I also employ adblock and peerblock on certain websites. I'm considering switching from AVG to another program for everyday use. If you're facing issues with AVG's alerts, you can adjust the settings to control what appears to you. Since I have tech-savvy siblings who often encounter online problems, I tend to catch a lot of issues myself.
I'm downloading Bitdefender 2014 FREE antivirus to test it out. I also spotted a discount on the full version for $25 ( http://www.bitdefender.com/solutions/ant...TTER_OFFER )
Obtain Microsoft Security Essentials—it’s actually quite solid.
