That's because you're using WiFi, which can be affected by interference. Just because there were no problems at first doesn't mean things won't change. I'm in agreement with @Slottr; a new antenna probably won't help much. A new one might just make you more sensitive to getting the signal. However, overall WiFi tends to have higher latency. I'd recommend considering power line adapters or MOCA adapters instead.

You require an antenna because MoCA performs significantly better than WiFi.
