[ANSWERED]Changing the memory to run faster than normal
I have a Ryzen 5 2600x paired with a GTX 970 graphics card, running on an EVGA 80+ Bronze power supply rated for 600 watts. My computer case is M.2.2280 SATA 3 500GB all equipped to the ASRock B450M PRO4 AM4 motherboard which supports AMD Promontory and has a USB 3.1 port, HDMI connection, and Micro ATX size. The RAM I am using comes from G.SKILL Aegis as an 16GB kit (two blocks of 8GB) that is 288-pin DDR4 SDRAM with the speed set to 3200MHz and Intel XMP 2.0 enabled in my Asrock UEFI or BIOS settings. There is an option on the RAM chip itself, but when I check it, it shows a voltage number that turns red because it is slightly higher than what was set before. If I click accept and save these settings now will this be okay? Or am I supposed to know something else before trying it out?
That memory kit was already tested and works on that exact motherboard. It can run at its advertised speed now. Just update your BIOS and try again. Make sure you put the sticks into slots A2 and B2, which are two spots after the CPU and right before slot C1. Slot C1 is the last one near the edge of the board. Also, save your settings before leaving the screen, and do this in Advanced or Expert mode, not Basic or Easy mode, when you're inside the BIOS.
Which RAM sticks are being used? Do you have the newest BIOS chip on your mainboard?
I checked that page about the B450 motherboard, but I can't find my RAM. I'm not sure if having it listed is needed for overclocking or something else.
nah it's not working yet, so I might try updating my BIOS next time.
