[ANSWERED] GPU getting hot and slowing down when you don't use an overclocker
so after playing Horizon Zero Dawn, i realized my graphics card (Gigabyte 970 G1) is super slow and decided to try overclocking myself. The Valley stress test makes my GPU get way too hot, even when I unlocked the power/temperature link and let it run at up to 90 degrees Celsius without changing anything else. i also noticed that the core clock speed goes up from 35-40 MHz when i increase the temp limit. is this normal? sorry if someone already said this before but i can't find any info about a GPU getting super hot just by setting it higher.
If you have an old 970, you might want to clean out the fans and cooler really well. You could also swap out the thermal paste to make sure things work better. Having good airflow from your case and keeping the room cool are both important for performance.
Having an older 970 might need some fresh air on its fans and cooler, plus it could do well with swapping out the thermal paste. It's all about good airflow from the case and keeping your room cool too.
