This approach doesn't match standard USB connections. It's better to stick with the original setup and use the available tools instead of trying to adapt to a different interface.

Yes, you can extend the USB2 header on the board. There are several internal hubs available.

My Corsair H100i features the LCD display positioned over the block. It included an internal USB splitter for the Commander Core and the screen. I didn’t need it since my motherboard already had sufficient headers, but the presence of one in the manual made me think it would be beneficial.

These sections typically require just a single port, or half of the USB header (since two ports use one header). When the wires are positioned only at the top or bottom of the header, this applies. If you're precise enough, you can detach one cable plug and connect the remaining wires to the other component's connector.
