Another stop on the road to nowhere.
Some sections of the game performed poorly even on consoles, with the swampdarkdamnbeing the worst part.
Dark Souls is completely unplayable in my view. It's the worst game ever made.
It doesn't work as intended, considering all the details* with the information provided. People seem to be repeating basic ideas without much depth, just copying what they see on YouTube. *A small glitch exists that prevents full thread loading until you manually adjust affinity for Core 0 in the task manager, then turn it back on after a short delay. The GPU optimization is decent but limited by large shadow maps and high textures at 8192p. My test showed smooth performance even with motion blur, medium shadows, and a powerful system—including a GTX 760, 16GB RAM, and an overclocked 3570K. I also used the Dying Light Manager mod to shift reflections to the CPU, which helped reduce some visual issues. Check it out on Steam Community.*
260x works well with 35-55fps textures at high settings, while lower settings perform fine on low (reduced view distance). I found no performance problems despite using it. The 270x also runs smoothly here, especially when enabling their anti-aliasing. FPS stays consistent with only slight drops compared to the 260x. I didn’t check CPU stats, but there were no noticeable stutters or issues in-game. Dying Light is a solid port, though the view distance can be a bottleneck.
Having additional RAM improves the viewing experience. Since view distance depends on the amount of AI, geometry, and animation data loaded, Dying Light can utilize more than 8GB of memory. Likely the first title with this capability, according to what I know.
That Norwegian developer can fine-tune any game to run smoothly, but players shouldn't have to spend hours adjusting settings or applying patches just to get the performance they expect. You won't see the image quality you anticipate from your hardware, as is common in most other titles. It's disappointing when developers rush day one fixes without proper debugging and testing, making it harder for users to rely on their own tools—like the Dying Light Management Tool they created themselves—to solve problems.
Dying Light is a solid port. It may have some CPU optimization issues, but it still works fine. It’s not worth worrying about its quality.
I think there is a Steam curator thingy that does this. Has a whole shit ton of games on it already
