I've got a fresh motherboard in hand, my new CPU is ready to go along with it. I realized I've never replaced a motherboard before—just built from scratch. I'm curious if I should do more than just install my M.2 SSD and power up. Will the new card require a Windows reinstall, or can it run on the existing drive?

It should function immediately, but results aren't assured. Link your Windows license to your Microsoft account for restoration. Check Microsoft’s website for guidance. If it's an OEM license, you may need a new one to activate properly. Switching platforms can cause driver problems, so consider updating the PC and removing all applications except files, unless necessary.

That sounds interesting. I'll check it out. It's not an OEM setup, using an AMD CPU with a transition from X370 to X570 chipset. The motherboard is MSI, and the case is Gigabyte. I'll try connecting my accounts, please!

It seems you're worried about losing your license and having to buy a new one. OEM licenses typically cost around $25.

I purchased my license and verified my Microsoft account. All my PCs are linked there. It’s impressive how much they understand my devices. At this stage, I’ll connect them and handle any issues as needed.
