Hello, you're searching for an alternative to the Ryzen 5 5600X since it's currently unavailable. It would be nice if this price offered good value. My main use is gaming on my current PC, but it's getting older, so I'm planning a fresh build. I'm still deciding which CPU to get.
My setup so far:
- Motherboard: MSI B450-A PRO
- CPU: Ryzen 5 2600
- RAM: HyperX 16GB DDR4 3200MHz CL16
- GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 1060 ARMOR 6G OCV1, 6GB GDDR5
- Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34 CO
- Power supply: Old Corsair 550W (ordered ZALMAN 750W BRONZE GIGAMAX)
- Monitor: 24" AOC G2460VQ6
I want something capable for new games like Assassin and FC6, as well as PoE streaming. It's a bit CPU-heavy, so I need a solid option. Any recommendations?
You could always go intel I5 10600k or more powerful, but I'm pretty sure it's not worth the money for the gain you will have compared to the cpu you already have. If you are really set on upgrading the cpu then I would wait for the 5600x to be back in stock or for intel to release something in the hope that it will be good. As for now I'm pretty sure that the most beneficial thing you could get is a gpu and you did manage to order a pretty good one so congrats on that ... that system will feel brand new when you get it. As for POE, I used to play it and ran it between 85 to 120 fps almost everything cranked to the max with my config ... I'm pretty sure you don't have much problem to run it as your cpu is more powerful than mine. As for valhalla I bet that your cpu will also be quite adequate. So for now, IMO, you should wait for the gpu to arrive and if you feel that the system is still not doing what you want, then upgrade the cpu ... maybe some cpu will be back in stock while waiting for the gpu to arrive.
I was considering doing an alternative cpu and buy an overkill motherboard while waiting for the 5600x or 5800x to come back in stock ... that cpu would probably have been the 3100 that was on sale for a while and that the price jumped up just before black friday ... so I decided to hard pass ... I was also considering something like a Z490 tomahawk and an I3 10100 while waiting for something like the I5 11600k (or something like that) to be released ... but then it's still a good amount of money and for now I really think that my system could benefit more from a gpu upgrade than a cpu upgrade. I'm pretty sure you will be fine with your 2600 ... maybe you will get a bit of a cpu bottleneck in some games but then just crank the details and ray tracing ... or use something like super resolution (an amd thing and I don't know what it's called on intel) to make the gpu work closer to it's full capacity.
