Hey, I’ve been discussing this with a friend about the lack of jumping mechanics in the game. He thinks it’s frustrating and feels like an insult that the developers haven’t improved it. What are your thoughts?

....I dont even know what you are trying to say. Are you complaining there isnt a jump button....? Metal Gear has never had one and I have played every single MG out there. If thats what you are saying no..it doesnt need one, at all.

Did you experience brink? It was a platform built around jumping mechanics, with engineers focusing intensely on engine performance and level design that surpassed anything before or since. What starts as a basic 2D map with varied levels transforms into an immersive 3D space, requiring developers to invest significantly more time not just in coding but also in crafting the environment.

The witcher chose to add the jump button after three titles, but it seems largely pointless. Source jump isn’t essential in a MGS game—you’d ignore it. I’m fine with them not including it.

They should have added more jumps like in Witcher 2, but it felt too generic. In Witcher 3 it came back and I really liked it.

Metal Gear on tougher levels requires you to focus on the third plane since MGS2. It could be an AI default action, but in lower settings of MGS2 you can skip it if you're not paying attention. If you're not aware of what's above you, you'll be noticed. Even though the landscape cross-section might look different, there are still multiple routes and objectives at various heights—right now one such path exists in Ground Zeros. Gameplay still pushes you to consider the third dimension.

You can reach areas you wouldn’t normally access by simply moving. Jumping with the horse over high ground makes it feel more natural.

Gaining height through climbing is essential for progression in Metal Gear.

Sure? The devs could adjust everything you can reach up to chest level and add a climbing button that fits the context, just like MGS does.

Metal Gear emphasized the importance of considering depth in terms of sightlines, which I had already noted. However, its motion has consistently been two-dimensional, shifting between shapes. As I explained, creating an engine for genuine three-dimensional movement presents a completely different challenge and demands a distinct strategy for level design.
