It depends on what you value. The cost to enter the game might not be worth it if you're looking for a free or low-cost alternative.
It varies. I entered without knowing much. I watched the video on YouTube and was impressed. HOWEVER, the game has some issues. The story or lore delivery is really poor. In traditional MMOs, you usually get detailed quest information through big dialog boxes and often have connected quests that smoothly lead into each other. In BDO, it’s different—you just get a few short sentences to click through and then start the quest. That feels a bit rough to me. The voice acting in English is quite bad. Fortunately, a mod was just released and it works well, switching the voice to Japanese or Korean. You can find it here. For combat, you have your usual options—standard shortcuts or using in-game commands similar to fighting games. Graphics are decent but have some noticeable flaws: object pops look unnatural, the in-game AA is poor, and the visuals struggle with VSync. Performance isn’t great either; it rarely drops below 30, often settling around 30-60, with some buffering issues for VSync. There are a few minor annoyances too, like the server selection not being persistent or the UI lacking clear ping indicators and a disorganized crafting interface. Still, the presentation videos look nice. But overall, the game feels rushed and lacks polish. Regarding payment, the developers seem to have taken BDO for quick profit with little care for players or updates. There’s no clear communication through forums, tickets, or news. Their shop is overpriced, especially for a single skin set of armor, which can cost more than the whole game. Speaking of armor, customization is good, but the available armors for each class look similar and uninspiring. They’re mostly boring, except for hair color or style. The only way to get better armor is through the premium shop, which offers limited choices. My suggestion? Get a 7-day guest pass if you’ve already purchased the game. There are likely many people sharing it online, and some sellers are offering it for free.
